DESCRIPTION:
Steam Specialty & Supply Co., Newark, NJ, steam engine indicator, nickel plated drum, spring, and recording stylus assembly in a fitted oak box with original paper record cards held in lid compartment, serial number 2100.
CONDITION:
Steam engine indicators were used to graphically record the relationship of pressure to piston displacement during an engine stroke. The recorded diagram could be used to make adjustments to improve engine performance. The Lippincott design is reported to have included many improvements to earlier types.
